Review!
by Joop Blokker

We feel extremely honored and proud that the leading Dutch magazine  PC-Active  published a FULL PAGE review of our program Mokum Mail. The title of the article, "Mokum Mail - Self-willed, but safe mailing", made me smile because it is very much to the point! Unlike other mailers, Mokum Mail is not an Outlook Express® clone. In the past eight years our program has grown according to the will and wishes of not only the great Beta Testers Team, but also the users sent us countless wishes and ideas. Perhaps "User driven", would be an alternative description...

Many thanks go to Jan Roza of PC-Active, for putting Mokum Mail to the test. Here is the translation of the article...

Mokum Mail - Self-willed, but safe mailing.
by Jan Roza

Most everyone with a computer uses e-mail, normally Outlook Express or Windows Mail in Windows, but Mokum Mail gives us a different approach.

Every computer, whether you use Windows or Linux provides an e-mail program by default, so why spend money on another program for sending your e-mail? The new program must clearly offer advantages over Outlook Express, Windows Mail or Thunderbird. According to BLOKKER Software, users of Mokum Mail can mail safer and more easily be creative with this program vs. a standard program. Let's take a bird's eye view of Mokum Mail's features.

Totally Different

The first thing you will notice in Mokum Mail is the user interface which completely differs from the layout of most 'traditional' mail programs. Because of this and the differences in how you work in the program, you will initially need to make some effort to find your way in Mokum Mail. As soon as you feel comfortable, it will appear that 'different' does not mean 'less'.

Because Mokum Mail first retrieves only the message headers from the provider, spam messages can be easily marked for and then deleted from the server itself. You can also add contacts to a list of trusted persons, the 'White List' or to a list of blocked senders, the 'Black List'. While retrieving the message headers, trusted senders are placed in the lower part of the main window and all others, which are generally unknown, in the upper part.

Another measure that gives better safety is the fact that an opened message is always shown first in plain text mode. Scripts and hazardous pictures or files do not get a chance to harm your computer. Only after you have decided for yourself that the message is from a friend or acquaintance, can you view it in its full layout in Mokum Mail's built-in web browser. In short, safety comes first in Mokum Mail.

Creating a message is also done differently in Mokum Mail. Once you select the addressee, you land in an html-editor window where you can type your text. While constructing your message, you can insert html codes manually or simply by clicking on button features which do it for you. You can also select a ready-to-use theme or stationery by clicking on the Theme or Script button. On Mokum Mail's Web Site you will find more than one thousand 'templates' that you can download and use for your messages. A simple template consists of a stationery background image and a nice text layout, but there are also more extensive templates with moving backgrounds, animations and music. Everyone can find something there that will be to his/her liking. If you run Mokum Mail in Windows XP, you can also make use of the WYSIWYG (What You See is What You Get) editor, to see the result while you are creating your message. Meanwhile, this feature also works in Windows Vista and Windows 7.

In Conclusion

Mokum Mail's approach to creating e-mails is completely different from other programs. You will have to get used to it at first, but it does offer more safety. The program offers the user almost unlimited ways to create messages and the receiver will often be pleasantly surprised and impressed with your message.
