Command Menus (NOT IN MM LITE)
Command Menus.
By pressing the Ctrl + L keys, (in most MM windows), a list pops up with the functions of that window and the assigned short cut keys.
You can select a function and press the ENTER key. The purpose of this list is to navigate to any button or command using your keyboard only. This feature is developed for people who have problems clicking the mouse button.
Selecting a Function:
Once you have clicked CTRL+L and opened the window, there are several ways to easily access a function.
- You can first click the Tab key on your keyboard, to place the emphasis in the list, and then use your keyboard arrow keys to go down and find the function you want... then click Enter.
- You can use the search field to start typing a function. E.G I want to go to the New Message window and start typing new and the list will jump here.
I can now click Enter and go to the New Message window.
- You can start typing the # of a function. If using this feature you will quickly become familiar with the function #'s you use most often. E.G. I have finished typing a message and I am ready to send it. I know the # for Send is 50 so I type 50 in the search box. Make note that this also reminds me that I could have used the Function key F4 to do the same!
Let's do a more complete Example:
When you press Ctrl + L in MM's Editor you will see the complete list. Now let's assume you want to pick 'Theme Select' and you start typing 'TH'
You see that two items are picked, these are the ONLY items that contain the string 'TH'. The one at the top is selected (with a border). If you want the 'Theme Create' button, you can press the Enter key.
But... we wanted the item 'Theme Select' (the little Mill button), so we continue typing until that one is at the top. Now we can press the Enter key OR you can press the Tab key and then arrow down to it.
But.. there is a little trick...
You can also type 'SEL' because that is a unique string in this item; not any other item contains this string of characters.
Alternatively, you can type the number 61 to go to that line immediately.
Remember: Unlike the search in the address book, the search string does NOT have to be equal to the start of an item. Here I have started typing LAT for "Send Later".
